Jump Rope For Heart Week Feb. 22-26

What is Jump Rope For Heart

Jump Rope For Heart (JRFH) is a national fundraising program sponsored jointly by AAHPERD and AHA. JRFH is a valuable program that promotes physical activity, heart healthy living, and community service to children. JRFH is targeted at students in elementary schools, but anyone can hold a program at their school, child care center, community center, or anywhere!

Jump Rope For Heart...
•Is a fun event!
•Promotes community service
•Is an educational program for elementary school students
•Raises money to fund lifesaving research and educational programs
•Teaches students to set and achieve goals and discover that they can make a difference!
The elementary school years encompass a time when children should establish a strong foundation for movement skills. These are also the years when positive learning experiences can help establish a positive attitude and appreciation for participating in regular, daily physical activity for life. The best reason of all to join this event is that kids love it!
Heart Facts
*Your heart is a hard worker! It pumps fresh blood to every cell in your body in less than 60 seconds.

*Learning Connection- What word does “circulatory” sound like? Circle! Blood in the circulatory system makes a big circle inside the body. The heart pumps blood through this circle.

*People who are physically fit, like athletes, have hearts that can pump about three times more blood than someone who isn’t in shape! This is because physical activity increases the size and power of the cardiac muscles.

*Learning Tip- Help students remember that arteries take blood away from the heart because both “arteries” and “away” start with an “A”.

Benefits that regular physical activity provides for children and adolescents

-better blood circulation in the body
-maintaining healthy weight
-better blood cholesterol levels
-having more energy
-sleeping better
-feeling more confident
-building stronger muscles
-being in a better mood

Welcome to Gym Class

Physical Fitness is a LIFETIME habit, not a one time activity. Do something EVERYDAY to keep physically fit, healthy and happy.
Welcome to Physical Education at Oak Grove Elementary!
February 22-26 is Jump Rope for Heart Week!!

Word of the Month.............

Perspiration (Sweat)
(
En español: Transpiración)
Say: pur-spuh-ray-shun
Perspiration is another name for sweat, the stuff that comes out of your skin through tiny holes called pores. Perspiration - which is mostly water - is your body's tool for keeping you cool when you get hot from exercise or hot weather. So next time you sweat, don't sweat it! It's just your body's way of chillin' you out.

Aerobic Activity
(
En español: Actividad aeróbica)
Say: air-oh-bik ak-tih-vih-tee

Get ready for a workout! Aerobic activity is any kind of movement that makes your muscles use oxygen. Aerobic activity gets your heart pumping, too. Swimming, dancing, and soccer are all types of aerobic activity, so hit that pool, dance floor, or soccer field and get moving!

PE Reminders......

Welcome Back!!!!!!!!

Classroom Expectations

* Safety is Number 1!
I expect each and every child that comes into PE class to act and move responsibly, and to be dressed appropriately. Please do not send your child in flip flops or dress shoes on PE days.
* Those students who come to PE with medical concerns MUST have a note from one of the following:
1) the parents/guardians
2) the doctor
3) School nurse.
***It is also important that I am made aware of any conditions that may limit their activity in physical education, such as asthma and other conditions.
